What to do...

So I've been planning on going to Hawaii this summer for a couple months now with some of my friends. Brookie sent her deposit in for our house a while ago and I sent mine in about a month ago. Briley has been back and forth about whether she still wants to go or not and the more she waits the more I think she'll talk herself out of it. My theory is that I have no commitments here in Mesa once the summer starts so why not take advantage of this time and get away for a while. It'll just be for the months of May and June and I'll be back for the rest of the summer to work and maybe for a summer school class. Well, Brookie just told me tonight that she's not going anymore and that she had already called the landlord to get her money back.

What should I do? It freaks me out to be without a support system. I have an easier time being myself when I have friends around who I know and trust. I'm not very good at talking to new people... On the other hand, it could force me to step out of my comfort zone which is probably good for me. And hey, its freaking Hawaii. Really I just need to get out of Mesa for a while. Away from school, away from work, and just relax in a stress free place. When am I ever going to have a chance to do this ever again?

that's a tough decision. i would have a hard time going by myself, too. but then, it IS hawaii. and you will never have this chance again. i say go for it!

i like your blog's new colors, by the way.

Think about last summer, and try to imagine if it would be worth the money to do it again, but without all of your friends. If you think it'd still be fun, then go for it.

I know you hate hearing things like this, but hear me out. What if you got an apartment near MCC or ASU and started going to a college ward? It would seem like a totally different atmosphere (not one filled with beaches, but different from your current Mesa.)

I understand the whole moving out thing but I'd still be in Arizona, around the same people. Even if I moved into an apartment I'd still end up talking and hanging out with the same people I always do and I'd still be working. Its a never ending cycle. The whole point of Hawaii is to be away from EVERYTHING... and be able to come bakc with a nice tan.

I think you should go. You may never have such a great opportunity. Don't waste the most free time of your life on summer school.

Also, I think Abbie is right. You would love living on your own. That said, I think you may be able to afford it even if you go to Hawaii. A room in an apartment/house around ASU isn't that expensive.

It was fun at BYU when I wasn't around my old friends and I just made the decision to sit next to people in the cafeteria and start talking to them. It's a skill I'm glad I have, er, had.

Hey, I used to do that too. On the first day of class, I'd pick someone who I wanted to be friends with, and then sit by them on the second day, and by then, even if your class doesn't have an official seating chart, everyone sits in the same seat for the rest of the semester. I did it in the cafeteria once (for a class 'social experiment') and it was super scary for me.

p.s. if you move to a college ward, you can make new friends with your college ward kids, and then be all like, "see ya, old friends, I have new friends now. COLLEGE friends."

Making friends in Laie would not be difficult. I love BYU-H in the summers, I'd go with you if I could.
